Is it really August already!?! I hope you are having a wonderful Summer sweet friends, I know our last few months have been a whirl wind. So sorry on my part that I missed the July free calendar, but it has been a blur of a few weeks filled with lots of excitement. At the end of June we said goodbye to the kiddos as they traveled to the Northeast to be with my family for what was a 4 weeks adventure. At the same time my better half and I started our travels to the West coast to explore. We stopped an saw various national parks an stayed with good friends on our drive to California and back. All in all the Summer has been great, but let's get this month started right with a new calendar. Enjoy!

Happy June, Happy (almost) Summer! I'm so thrilled June is here... it's gonna be a good month for sure! May was a tough month for me, but it's over and now I'm ready to be outdoors more. I look forward to this time of year. Fresh food from the Farmers Market, trips to the park, movies at the drive in...we even made a trip out to the public pool which opened Monday. Though it was cool the kiddos still happily swam till their lips where blueish... oh to be a kid. Here's June though! An a new calendar to get this month rolling out right. Enjoy!

ORIGINAL ART SALE TODAY!

Today's the day, an I'm super excited to announce that my art sale goes live in the shop at 10am. I have reopened, an have been slowly re-branding my handmade Etsy shop, which has been renamed "Sandi Doodles". I will eventually be offering prints of my work and commissioned requested pieces. Here's a sneak peek of what will be going live in the first sale starting today. I'll be completely honest, after some careful decision making I decided to list all these originals pieces at a lower than normal rate with the hopes that if you've had your eye on something, that you'd be able to easily purchase it for your personal collection. SANDIDOODLES : DECEMBER + GOALS

December!?! How is it December, an the 3rd to be exact. I was mentioning to my better half last weekend that the year has just flown right by and what have I done with myself? Though my blog hasn’t been as updated as I hoped it would have been for 2015, I have been busy on the back end with family, life, home projects, work, doodling and more… To say that I haven’t been busy would be an understatement. As 2016 is almost here I started thinking about the year(s) behind me and all the ideas of things I’ve hopes to achieve. My goals lists have always been both big and small, an when I finally finish my list I’ll share some of it here...

One of my goals for the year behind us was to doodle something new every week. There were a few weeks I was off, because of schedules and poor timing I'm sure but all in all I tried my best. Am I'm pretty proud of myself for doing so. In October I challenged myself to the online #Inktober craze an felt very successful after it too. You may see those doodles over on IG under my hashtag #sandidoodles. My yearly goal of doodling will continue, but in the year ahead I hope to challenge myself more an in few new ways. I'll share more about this later.

INKTOBER 2015!

Inkober!!! Say what?! Ok so if you’re an artist an still haven’t ever hear of this wonderful month it’s time to take a second to pop on over to the website and read all about it. But a quick rundown of what it is… well it’s a month of inking, doodling and being creative. Artist from all over the world pull out their pens an supplies to doodle one piece a day. It’s a way of brushing up on your skills and sharing your talent with others, plus being inspired thru the month. If you’re on social media you can search the hashtag #inktober or #inktober2go and see all of the work being posted daily. If you’re like me, sometimes it's hard to commit to a daily doodle, I understand that... so I may doodle an extra illustration to post a day later, but all in all it should be fun. SANDI DOODLES : THE VIKING

Lately as I try to get back into the swing of things, an as the home projects slow down some, and I feel a sense of calm in our lives, I've started doodling again more... I have been sketching anything that comes to mind, but overall I have always gravitated towards drawing female figures. Something about the shape of their eyes, the styles of hair I can only imagine, or even a slight personality I may give to them in the gesture of their smirk has always been something I’ve enjoyed. Head dresses, hats, crowns, glasses and more are also fun to play around with an this viking was no different. I also dabbled in my kiddos colored pencils some. I’m not huge into incorporating color, I can but I don’t because I love the way clean black line work looks, but this piece was pleasant change from the norm. What are you doodling lately? GIVE THANKS - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Today, as we celebrate Thanksgiving, it's a reminder of all that I have been blessed with. Beyond anything I am so thankful for my kiddos, Wyeth and Penelope. They make every day an adventure and I can't even imagine how my life was before these two special people. I'm so proud to be called a mom because of them and I am so happy of our little family. For my boyfriend Josh, who is an amazing guy. I love him so much and his love for me and my kiddos is beyond anything I could have imagined. I am thankful for my family, my parents, my brothers, cousins and other relatives both near and far. For my kiddos dad Ben and his family, who play an important part in my kids life. I am thankful for being able to draw and create with my hands, and for the other talents I have been blessed with. For clean water, food in our bellies, a home over our head, my job, my health an so much more. There is so much to be thankful for, what is something you are thankful for this holiday season?

#SANDIDOODLES / FLOWERS ARE ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA

I've been working on exploring my own hand lettering. An though, by no means, am I a professional calligrapher, I still like to dabble in the arts of lettering. I see it as a challenge, and personally for me, it's another form of illustration, which is what my background is in. It's shapes, lines, thick and thin markings, all things make up a completed illustration. I like using pens, though they can be a bit scary an unforgiving some, this way I can't erase errors an have to force myself to continue practicing. I go through a bit of paper this way, but it's worth the continued efforts. I've found picking words or quotes is a good place to start so like others I've done this was a recent one from a few nights prior. SANDI DOODLES : LONG BRAID

I don't find myself doing complete pencil renderings to often. As forgiving as pencils can be, because of the erase factor, I prefer clear monotoned lines of pen and ink. All of my illustrations start with light pencil sketches which are then erased after the ink is applied but every now and again, I get in a groove of shading in an illustration an get a little crazy with my Number 2. An if you're on the current hunt for the perfect pencil, there are tons out there, but I really love this one pictured, the "Twist -Erase III" by Pentel 0.5mm (find it here) an let's just say I own a good handful of them.
